Pandora's box by Charles Edward Perugini |
It took me so long to understand the difference between hope and expectation
They might seem related, but this maybe this is not the case . I really believe they are two different entities, completely.
Life is so unexpected, so changing and so agile. Everyday and every moment, things, people and situations around the world change without a previous notice, suddenly, and out of nothing.
For that, it might be a useless human nature to expect things to happen according to a certain process, to expect people to behave in a given way, and to expect some situations to stay forever the same
Expectations are the most confusing thing in life, they always cause pain and frustration, but life never promised us something will remain the same, life has always been known for surprises, so it's a mess to blame it for our disappointments
Thus, I don't believe in promises, how can you ever promise something surely when no single thing in life is guaranteed? The one thing you can promise is to try, and to hope, for hope, as the Pandora's box myth states, might be the only good thing that the gods created
Hope is something you can hold on to: you can always hope for things to be better, but you have to keep in mind that this is not promised.
Hope is the one thing that might help us to adapt with the unexpected reality, but like anything else in life, it should be consumed in moderation
Let's be hopeful, but let's not make our hope a god to worship, or a fact to exist
It would be always more reassuring to expect the worst, but hope for the best
Maybe then, one can manage to exist peacefully.. Maybe
